LASER TREATMENTS, IPL

Years of sun exposure can lead to sunspots, age spots, freckles, and broken blood vessels. The red and brown tones make the skin appear aged and uneven. IPL turns back the hands of time by selectively destroying melanin (pigment) and hemoglobin (red blood cells). We use IPL to treat the face, chest, arms, and hands. For patients with rosacea, IPL can be used to decrease diffuse redness and prevent flushing.

What is an IPL Photofacial?

Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy, also known as a Photofacial, is a cosmetic treatment that helps rejuvenate the skin and restore a youthful appearance. Unlike a laser that focuses just one wavelength of light on the skin, IPL emits varying wavelengths of light, similar to a photo flash.

IPL’s light is more scattered and less focused than a laser, treating various skin conditions simultaneously. The light waves penetrate deep down into the dermis (second skin layer) without damaging the epidermis (outermost layer). The skin’s pigment cells will absorb the light energy to destroy and eliminate the brown and red spots over time. The body also produces more collagen as the wavelengths are delivered to deeper dermal layers to stimulate the process.

What does the IPL Photofacial Treat?

Photofacials safely and effectively target skin imperfections, with results that improve over time as the skin thickens and becomes healthier. Because red blood cells or the skin’s melanin absorb light pulses efficiently, IPL Photofacials allow the team at Neurostrive to treat the following conditions:

  • Brown spots
  • Dark patches or age spots
  • Acne
  • Rosacea symptoms
  • Facial and leg veins
  • Pigmented lesions
  • Vascular lesions
  • Mild to moderate sun damage
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Freckles
  • Enlarged pores
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Signs of aging

What is the Downtime of the IPL Photofacial?

Although you will see results after just one session, most of our clients benefit from a series of IPL laser treatments (3-5), which we spread out by several weeks to allow time for your body to respond. Since the technology is noninvasive, there’s no downtime afterward, but you may experience some mild redness or swelling.

As you progress through your treatments, your results build gradually as your skin flushes out the damaged cells and rebuilds itself with new collagen and elastin. At about 6-12 weeks after your final session, you’re rewarded with a face you’ll love to greet in the mirror each morning.
