PRP HAIR RESTORATION

HAIR RESTORATION

PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP)

Most patients prefer a non-invasive technique for hair restoration. Today, we offer an innovative treatment using your own blood. The treatment is called Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy. It is a proactive therapeutic option for men and women experiencing hair loss. PRP is an exciting non-surgical therapeutic option for patients who require stimulation of hair growth for hair loss conditions.

THE SCIENCE OF PRP
As we age, our hair follicles become miniaturized causing the hair to be thinner, weaker and unable to regrow. PRP contains special cells called platelets that can theoretically cause growth of the hair follicles by stimulating the stem cells and other cells in the microenvironment of the hair follicle. These special platelet cells promote healing, accelerate the rate and degree of tissue healing and regeneration, and formation of new hair follicles. The primary purpose of using PRP in hair restoration is to stimulate inactive or dormant hair follicles into an active growth phase.
Inside the platelets are many intracellular structures such as glycogen, lysosomes and alpha granules. These granules within the PRP contain clotting and growth factors that are eventually released during the healing and repair process for hair restoration.
How Does PRP Work?
PRP involves the use of your blood, about four table spoons of blood will be drawn and then placed into a centrifuge and spun at a fast speed to separate the platelets from the rest of the blood, which activates the Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP). The PRP is then administered with a fine needle in a series of injections on the scalp. Once injected, these platelets will release proteins and growth factors that serve to accelerate repair and regeneration, and activate stem cells to grow hair follicles.
What Are the Benefits of PRP Injection for Hair Restoration?
PRP activates your maximum hair restoration and growth:
  • Activates growth factors and regenerates hair follicles
  • Improves hair’s texture, color and tone
  • Naturally increases the thickness of the hair
  • Creates a natural glow to your hair
  • Noninvasive technique
When Will I See Results?
This treatment is not a “quick fix” and is designed to promote long-term tissue regeneration. New hair growth can be seen as early as 2 months, but is typically evident between 5-7 months and will continue to improve up to a year after treatment. Best results may be seen with multiple treatments.
Is PRP for me?
PRP has been used successfully in other medical and surgical disciplines for many years. The decision to use PRP is a personal decision and should be made after careful research, consideration and consultation with a physician. PRP is safe and natural because the procedure concentrates the good cells from your blood and injects them directly back into the area where it is needed.
Is PRP Treatment Painful?
Some patients report that being injected with PRP feels like a pinch. A topical anesthetic is applied to numb the area being treated. Your specialist may use ice to numb the treatment area after treatment is completed. After your treatment, you can resume your day.
It is important that anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen and Naproxen be avoided following PRP treatments. These medicines may block the effects of the intended healing response facilitated by the injection itself. You may use Tylenol and apply ice as needed.
Who Should Not Have PRP Treatment?
Most people are suitable candidates for PRP therapy. Individuals with platelet dysfunction syndrome, thrombocytopenia, hypofibrinogenemia, hemodynamic instability, sepsis, acute and chronic infections and chronic liver pathology are not suitable candidates for PRP therapy. Those undergoing anti-coagulant therapy are also not suitable candidates. Smoking interferes with the growth factors and tissue healing. If you smoke, you will not experience the full benefit of PRP treatment.
